Balloon Bag and IV Ozone Treatments and Their Benefits
Ozone therapy involves administering medical-grade ozone gas (O₃) to the body via various methods to initiate a cellular adaptation process. As soon as ozone reaches the tissues, it triggers a powerful antioxidant response; this activates enzymes (such as glutathione peroxidase and superoxide dismutase) that help cells protect themselves against damage. While alleviating cellular oxygen deprivation, it also balances the immune system. However, ozone therapy must never be performed on hearsay or in facilities with inadequate sterilization; it must always be administered by a certified specialist in this field.

Application Methods and Mechanisms of Action
IV Ozone Therapy (Major Autohemotherapy): This procedure involves drawing a specific amount of blood (typically 50–100 ml) from the patient, mixing it with a dose of ozone gas as determined by the physician in special ozone-resistant sterile bottles and sets, and then re-administering it to the patient intravenously (IV). When exposed to ozone, red blood cells (erythrocytes) become more flexible, allowing them to pass more easily through capillaries and deliver maximum levels of oxygen to the tissues.
Balloon Bag Method (Extremity Bagging): It is particularly recommended for diabetic foot ulcers, chronic non-healing ulcers, leg wounds caused by circulatory disorders, or resistant fungal infections. The patient’s affected limb (arm or leg) is placed inside a special ozone-resistant bag. After the air is evacuated from the bag, humidified ozone gas is continuously introduced into it. This localized application eliminates harmful microorganisms in the wound area within seconds while stimulating capillary circulation to accelerate tissue repair (granulation tissue formation).
The Benefits of Ozone Therapy for the Body
Immune System Modulation: Ozone stimulates the immune system at low doses (immunostimulation), while at high doses it suppresses an overactive immune response (immunomodulation). In this way, it helps reduce the body’s attack on its own tissues in autoimmune diseases (such as rheumatoid arthritis, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, and MS).
Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia: It increases ATP (energy) production by activating the mitochondria, the cell’s powerhouses. It reduces muscle pain and eliminates the feeling of waking up tired in the morning and brain fog.
Circulatory Disorders and Vascular Health: Ozone promotes the relaxation and dilation of blood vessels by increasing the release of nitric oxide from endothelial cells lining the inner surfaces of blood vessels. This process provides vital support for tissue perfusion in individuals with peripheral artery disease and chronic vascular occlusions.
When Should You Seek Ozone Therapy?
In addition to your modern medical treatments, you can consult an ozone therapy specialist as a supportive and regulatory approach in the following situations:
In cases of persistent chronic fatigue, constant tiredness, and poor sleep quality
When diabetic foot ulcers or leg ulcers caused by varicose veins do not respond to standard treatments (for the combination of balloon catheter and IV therapy)
In cases of fibromyalgia and syndromes characterized by widespread muscle and joint pain
To strengthen the immune system against frequently recurring viral and bacterial infections
To improve quality of life during the maintenance phase of autoimmune diseases, outside of active flare-ups
Important Note: Ozone therapy is not a “miracle cure” in and of itself, nor is it an alternative to traditional medicine; rather, it is one of the most powerful complementary methods that significantly enhances the success of modern medical treatments. Your treatment protocol (number of sessions and ozone dose) should be planned entirely on a personalized basis, based on your current medical conditions and the results of your body’s analysis. Please feel free to contact our clinic with any questions or to request an appointment.
Risks and Contraindications to Be Aware Of
Favism (G6PD enzyme deficiency): Ozone therapy must never be administered to individuals with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency, commonly known as "fava bean allergy." In these patients, ozone can cause red blood cell breakdown (hemolysis), which can be fatal.
Hyperthyroidism (Toxic Goiter): Ozone therapy should not be administered during periods of active hyperthyroidism, when the thyroid gland is overactive and hormone levels cannot be controlled, because it may further accelerate the metabolism.
Pregnancy and Bleeding Disorders: Ozone therapy is contraindicated during the first three months of pregnancy and in patients with active bleeding (e.g., gastrointestinal bleeding, recent hemorrhagic stroke) or a coagulation disorder.
Critical Material and Application Warning: Ozone gas is a very powerful oxidizing agent. For this reason, all kits, supplies, and syringes used during the procedure must be “ozone-resistant” (made of silicone or a special polymer). Contact between standard plastic materials and ozone causes the plastic to melt, allowing toxic substances to enter the patient’s bloodstream directly. You must ensure that the clinic where you will receive treatment complies with these standards.
